A People's History of the Supreme Court, Peter Irons

Virtually every aspect of our society has been fundamentally influenced by the Supreme Court decisions.  This work traces the history of America's highest court and its rulings from the debates over judicial powers in the 1780's to recent struggles over gay rights, the Ten Commandments, abortion and "enemy combatants."  The book includes portraits of legal giants like John Jay and Thurgood Marshall as well as ordinary Americans whose cases changed our history.
